Assessing
Future Trends
In
tandem with the current trend of urban dwellers placing a greater emphasis on
their quality of living in cities as compared to previous emphasis on economic
opportunities, urban planners must now recognize such shift before being able
to accurately draft future planning. In the case of Singapore, it can be observed
that its people in general are calling for a better synergy between the functionality
and aesthetic appeal of a particular infrastructure.
This can be attributed to the change in the perceived role played by cities. With increasing globalization, an urban city now has to set a distinctive factor of its own to be apart from other cities. A well-designed city will also provide a vibrant and comfortable city-life within a quality city landscape. Taking in all of that, it is interesting to note the possible direction that can be taken in the future for urban planning. While in itself the aforementioned might be challenging, the returns are highly rewarding as the testament of a well developed city will ultimately lead to direct spin-offs generated in terms of economic, social-cultural and environmental benefits. This will include attraction of new businesses, talents, tourist and creating jobs.
